8 Things

Rusty at New Covenant has tagged me with a meme to write 8 things you don’t know about me.

I can’t believe you don’t know this stuff, but here goes:
  1. I filmed a United States Marine Corp recruiting commercial in 1978 with Francis Cherry, former Governor of Arkansas from 1953 to 1955.
  2. While in High School, I once drove my 1969 Plymouth GTX at 150 miles an hour.
  3. Before becoming a Christian in 1989, I loved arguing with Christians about their silly beliefs, and I still do.
  4. I have never broken 80 in a round of golf, but I still believe, someday I will.
  5. I have four bothers and four sisters.
  6. I completed the 1995 LA marathon as my future wife waited for me in some very bad weather.
  7. I won the Crane Industries Ping Pong championship in 1977.
  8. I once worked for Tucker, Duck, and Rubber company in Fort Smith Arkansas.

Don’t forget to register your vote on my Presidential poll.

A GTX at 150 mph? Sounds like you need to visit the autobahn. Congrats on the marathon; the farthest I've ever run in one workout was 9 miles (and that was in high school).

Hi Rusty,

The GTX was built for the open road. It couldn’t get off the line with the Roadrunner, 442, Charger, Cobra, or the other muscle cars, but due to the gear ratio, once it got going, it really got going. The engine wasn’t maxed at 150, but the speedometer only registered 150, and the car body was shaking so much, and I was shaking so much, I had to let off the gas. I can’t believe I was so stupid then.

I’ve been a runner since boot camp, but I don’t think most people, including me, have a body for running 26 miles at one time. I wanted to run a marathon once, but I won’t be ever running one again. 9 miles in high school impresses me. I was smoking a pack a day back then.

Funny how thinking about some of these things almost seems like thinking about a different person than myself. I can barely relate to the person I was in High School.
