Thanks Dave! I wondered if it was my most tasteless post... and therefore my best? Just mens being manly I guess.

The feminization of our culture and of church has been in the back of my mind lately. Part of my "muse" returning is trying to find a more masculine approach to praise music. Got my mind going on this one...

Hi Count,

Your comment gives me hope. I think men would respond to music that is thoughtful, intelligent, more than three one-syllable words, and a call to holy action.

It has been my observation that the bigger churches have pretty good worship bands as far as music is concerned, but not very many have worship songs with lyrics with any depth. Good luck.

Please let me know when you will be leading a worship service. I would like to attend.

I would point you toward Rich Mullins, Count.

He wrote Awesome God, but you may be unfamilar with the song, since it is often reduced to a chorus. Some of the lines:

"When He rolls up his sleeves, He ain't just puttin' on the Ritz...the is thunder in his footsteps and lightining in his fists"

"Judgment and wrath He poured out on Sodom, mercy and grace he gave us at the cross, I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that our God is an awesome God."

Mullins' music is Scripture based, and often will be exclusively scripture or creedal ("52:10", from Isaiah 52:10, or "Creed", the Apostles Creed").

I consider him the greatest Christian songwriter of our era. I'll be thanking him in heaven.

Hi Hammer,

I agree. Great song and great artist. Rich Mullins and other late 80’s/early 90’s artists had both a heart for worship and biblical lyrics. Where have they all gone?
